Description
Artwork by Oregon photographer, Jason McPheeters - This is part of the water tower that once provided water to the town of Shaniko, which is Oregon's most famous ghost town. It was built in 1900 and had a 10,000 gallon capacity. Spring water was pumped from a canyon just south of the town, which filled two wooden tubs located high up in the water tower. From there, water was piped to the town's people through a wood pipe system. Today, visitors won't see the upper most tanks which have since been removed. Shaniko is a great stop when on a road trip through Central Oregon's rural high desert.
