This river was once the home of the Tenino People, who were indigenous to the are and lived off the land and river. Later, this river was the lifeline of the two largest lumber mills that used it to transfer their lumber. Now, this river is vital to the irrigation of the area's farms and ranches. It is also hugely popular for residents and tourists for paddling, floating and fishing. Walking along the river trails on a calm, quiet day can be tranquil and relaxing, with views of wildlife spotted up and down the water and in the sky.
